The State of the Financial Services Industry
A Mid-Year Review of the Current Landscape and the Challenges/Opportunities that Lie Ahead
The last 24 months have seen one of the most violent periods of upheaval in our economy and our financial system. Beginning with the near / actual failure of Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers, TARP, and changes to Reg E, financial institutions have seen the landscape dramatically altered. Several of the largest banks no longer exist. There have been many calls to “fix the problem,” and Congress has dutifully responded. The result: pending federal legislation that most certainly will result in the most sweeping changes in the financial services industry since the 1930s. From restrictions on debit card interchange income to the Consumer Financial Protection Agency, this bill contains provisions that will dramatically impact the financial services industry now and into the future.
Join Bill Handel, Vice President of Research, as he presents the current state of the industry and what challenges/opportunities lie ahead.
Attend and learn:
- What will the impact of both Reg E changes and restrictions on debit card interchange income be on the checking equation?
- What strategies and tactics should you implement to improve margins in an environment of escalating operating costs and significant threats to non-interest income?
- Loan growth will continue to be a struggle for most financial institutions. What steps should you consider in order to improve your loan generation?
- Given Reg E changes, interchange income restrictions, and other inevitable challenges, how should financial institutions look to replace these lost sources of non-interest income?
- What role are branches likely to play in the future of your organization, and what should you be doing now to prepare for this future?
